Everything you need to know about Alex Volkanovski and his weight loss with before and after snaps
Alex Volkanovski is a mixed martial artist from Australia. He recently won in a match against Max Holloway while competing for the Ultimate Fighting Championship in the Featherweight class.
Alex currently holds the UFC Featherweight Championship. He was once the Featherweight champion of the Australian Fighting Championship (AFC). Volkanovski competed as a professional boxer in 2015 before making his UFC debut.
On November 26, 2016, Volkanovski made his official debut. At UFC Fight Night 101, he defeated Yusuke Kasuya in the second round to extend his winning streak to 11. At the post-fight news conference, he said that he will switch weight classes for his upcoming bout, moving from lightweight to featherweight.
On September 29, 1988, Volkanovski was born in Shellharbour, New South Wales. His father was born in the SR Macedonian hamlet of Beranci and his mother is from Greece.
According to his trainer, Joe Lopez began MMA training at the age of 22. Before going professional and dropping down to the welterweight, lightweight, and eventually featherweight divisions, he first engaged in several middleweight contests as an amateur while he adapted from his rugby weight.
With fellow UFC competitors Israel Adesanya, Dan Hooker, Kai Kara-France, and current middleweight champion Israel Adesanya, Volkanovski frequently attends training camps at Tiger Muay Thai in Phuket and City Kickboxing in Auckland. Volkanovski is based at the Freestyle Fighting Gym in Wollongong.
Ariana and Airlie are two of Volkanovski’s kids, he is married to Emma. He had an appearance as a coach in the amateur MMA reality series Malaysia Invasion.
He used the moniker “The Great” in homage to Alexander the Great, saying that he shared “a Macedonian father and a Greek mother,” just like Alexander the Great, because of his paternal Macedonian and maternal Greek lineage.
Alex Volkanovski weight loss
So the UFC fighter has had quite some weight loss.
He may weigh 67 kg, but his frame is unmistakably stocky. Australian Volkanovski used to weigh up to 97kg when he competed in the UFC as a raging prop for the Warilla Gorillas in the semi-pro rugby league. Even though he has become noticeably slimmer, much of his front-row strength is still contained inside his 1.68m frame.
He also had ongoing back problems, which limited him. His ability to work out was limited by bulging discs and sciatica, which might keep him out for weeks at a time. He even started to worry that the issues would eventually result in him needing a wheelchair as the flare-ups worsened.
