Lauren describes her initial switch from kickboxing to boxing, while still playing football – she says that she loves football however she has fostered the Olympic dream since the age of eight. So in 2014, when an opportunity to go and box at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games arrived, she left her football career behind. The former footballer also spoke about the similarities between football and boxing:
“It’s the same on the football pitch, playing centre-half, that’s why I’ve got two scars on my head because I’ve gone up and got the ball and come back down on someone.”
Now 26, Lauren is in the unique position of having won the world and European kickboxing titles, earned 52 caps for Wales Women’s football side, and is now one of the favorites to claim a boxing gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics next summer. In an interview, the boxer revealed her involvement in football and boxing at the same time. She said:
“My grandad was into football – I started playing when I was eight for a boys’ club called Fleur de Lys – but I went to kickboxing just to burn energy.”

Lauren Louise Price was born on 25 June 1994 in Newport, Wales, but grew up in Ystrad Mynach. She competed for Wales in the women’s middleweight category at the 2014 Commonwealth Games where she won a bronze medal. Derek and Linda Price (her grandparents) raised her. Her father and mother left her when she was an infant. The reason for them leaving is unknown as the athlete barely mentions them. All we know is her dad’s name is Tim. At the age of 13, she won a silver medal at a World Championships event held in Athens (2007). In 2011, with just one amateur fight under her belt, she won bronze at both Youth World Championships and the Women’s European at age 17.
Later on in her career, she managed to claim another bronze at the 2016 European Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria.
